ECR (echoed cross-resonance) gate

The maximally entangling two-qubit gate native to IBM's newer superconducting processors, built from an 'echoed' pair of opposite-sign cross-resonance pulses around a control-qubit X flip, and locally equivalent to CX.

Quantum vs classical

Classical baseline

Use a classical state-vector or matrix simulation at the same width, precision, and measurement objective.

Quantum claim

The quantum record demonstrates a state or operator behavior; it does not make classical simulation or communication costs disappear.

How to compare

Compare fidelity, samples, gate depth, noise, memory, and the cost of preparing and reading the state.

Method
Multiply the 4×4 matrices for RZX(π/4), a control-qubit X flip, and RZX(-π/4) in circuit order and compare the product entry-by-entry against Qiskit's published ECRGate matrix.
Result
Pass · the product matches 1/√2·[[0,0,1,i],[0,0,i,1],[1,-i,0,0],[-i,1,0,0]] exactly in all 16 entries.
